The Planning Section is split into three parts:
Development Control
Development Control |deals with the processing of planning applications, taking account of national and local policies and guidance together alongside the merits of each scheme, to ensure development is in the public interest. Development Control also enforces planning legislation and provides general advice on planning matters.
We strive to ensure that the character and amenity of an area is not adversely affected by new buildings, extensions or changes in the use of buildings or land. Visit the Development Control| web pages.

Forward Plans
Forward Plans| is part of the Planning Section, our remit is the preparation, implementation, monitoring and review of planning policy. The Forward Plans Team has started to prepare a Local Development Framework| that will provide the planning policy framework for the borough up to 2026 and will include Development Control policies and sites for new housing and employment. It will eventually replace the adopted Local Plan| which has been saved. The Forward Plans team also coordinates input into other plans, such as the Regional Spatial Strategy and is responsible for the appraisal of conservation areas. Visit the Forward Plans |web pages.

Countryside and Biodiversity
The aim of the Countryside and Biodiversity service is to protect and conserve the countryside and biodiversity throughout the our development needs. This is being achieved through various strategic documents such as the Oadby and Wigston Green Wedge Management Strategy, the Landscape Character Assessment, the implementation of our Biodiversity Action Plan and various projects throughout the borough.
