Blow the cobwebs away after Christmas and help conserve a Woodland - 15/12/2009

Anyone wishing to get out into the fresh air and help to conserve a woodland in Oadby is welcome to come along to the next volunteer days on Sunday 31 January, Sunday 28 February or Sunday 28 March 2010. We will be doing some hedge-laying, planting some new hedgerows, litter picking and clearing some bramble and if the weather is good, painting some fences. No experience is required, training, tools and refreshments are provided. Please note there will be no volunteer day on Sunday 27 December 2009.

Fludes Lane is a wooded public footpath which starts at the A6 near the Hand-Wash garage in Oadby but which is also accessible from Brookside Drive, Severn Road and the proposed Oadby Grange Country Park off Florence Wragg Way. Meeting on the last Sunday of each month at Severn Road flood-basin, at 10:00 a.m., we work through to about 3:00 p.m. Tasks vary from hedge-laying, hedge-planting, footpath maintenance, litter picking, clearing areas of bramble and other light practical conservation work. Refreshments, tools and gloves are provided, but we ask that you come along suitably attired and bring your own lunch. There is no need to book, you can just turn up, but sometimes a date may be changed so it is always advisable to ring on the Friday if you can to check. If you feel that this may be for you, but you are not sure, contact the Countryside and Biodiversity Officer at the Borough Council on Leicester (0116) 257 2651 or email helen.gregory@oadby-wigston.gov.uk
