Summary
This page gives information regarding the Local Housing Allowance rates. Your housing benefit will be calculated based on the rates listed below for the number of bedrooms you require for your household composition.
Local Housing Allowance (LHA) is a new way of working out new claims for Housing Benefit for tenants renting accommodation from a private landlord. It also affects tenants already getting Housing Benefit who move into accommodatin rented from a private landlord. Local Housing Allowance is being introduced on 7 April 2008. If you live in council accommodation or other social housing, Local Housing Allowance will not affect you.

Changes from 6 April 2009
We are making some changes to the amount of LHA that someone is entitled to for a property consisting of six or more bedrooms. From 6 April 2009, the LHA rate will be capped to the five bedroom rate. This means that no one will be entitled to LHA for six or more bedrooms.
