What is an event?
Essentially an event is any gathering of a number of people on land or in buildings for the purpose of an activity which is not the main or usual activity carried out in that premises or land, or the number of people or activity will have a consequential impact on the surrounding locality.
Event notification/application forms – tell us about your event
If you are planning to hold an event in the Borough, please contact the Licensing Team by telephone on 0116 257 2642 where the event details will be recorded and forwarded on to the relevant Safety Advisory Group members (i.e. Highways, Police, Leicestershire Fire & Rescue, East Midlands Ambulance Service etc.) who may contact you for further information.
The Council’s internal teams will let you know what permissions and licences you need to apply for and may contact you in regards to environmental health matters.
The Council will make all relevant services aware of your event; however, responsibility for the safe and compliant delivery of an event rests with the event organiser.
In addition to recording your event, if the event meets one of the following criteria, then you will also need to complete an Event Notification form. The criteria being:
- The event involves in excess of 500 attendees whether alcohol is available or not
- Highway impact
- Attendance by VIPs
- Attendance by military
- Has a community impact
Where to send the Event Notification Form
Please return your completed event notification form along with any supporting documents to licensing@oadby-wigston.gov.uk. If you are unable to return the completed form by email, please post to Licensing Team, Oadby & Wigston Borough Council, Brocks Hill Council Offices, Washbrook Lane, Oadby, LE2 5JJ. Please ensure that you advise us if you make any alterations or additions to your event once you have submitted your event notification form.
