How to Apply

Answer all Questions

Make sure all questions on the application form are answered. If there are any gaps in your employment history, please explain why.

Refer to the Advert

Refer to the advert, job description and person specification and describe how you meet the essential and desirable criteria.

Proofread the Form

Proofread your application form to check for spelling/grammar. Ask a friend or family member to check this for you before submitting your application.

Interview Process

The key element to job finding is through our interview process, this will usually be the deciding factor to successful employment.

Preparation

The purpose of an interview is for the panel to determine if you match the job requirements, but also to clarify if the role meets your expectations. An interview is a two-way conversation to determine the outcome.

Before the Interview

  • Ensure you have read the job description and person specification and prepare examples that meet the criteria.
  • Ensure you have researched Oadby & Wigston Borough Council.
  • Prepare answers to likely questions.
  • Make sure you look presentable.

Panel

Our interview panel is usually made of three members of staff, it's important that you are engaging with all members of the panel when answering questions.

Tips

  • Relax and stay calm, take some deep breaths before you are called into the interview.
  • Greet all members of the panel to make a positive first impression.
  • Smile and maintain eye contact when speaking to the panel.
  • Speak clearly, take time to answer questions that are being asked, and try not to rush your answers.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask the panel any questions you may have, you are also trying to establish if the role fits your requirements.
