Electric Vehicle Charge Points installed in the borough
In order to help residents transition to electric vehicles, Oadby and Wigston Borough Council has received funding to install electric vehicle charge points.
Charge points have been installed by the Council and partner organisation Blink Charging (Formerly EB Ltd) at the southern end of Countesthorpe Road Car Park (pictured) in South Wigston, as well as Wigston Pool and Fitness Centre, Aylestone Lane Car Park in Wigston and East Street Car Park in Oadby.
The chargers are available for all residents to use 24 hours a day, with free overnight parking in place between 6pm - 8am.
About the project
These sites were chosen as they are close by to residential properties that do not have off street parking, which would make charging electric vehicles at home difficult. The charge points are available for all residents to access and use 24 hours a day.
The Council are working with a partner organisation, Blink Charging, on this project. Blink Charging have completed the installation work and will manage the charge points.
To use the charge points residents will need to install the 'Blink Charging - EB Go!' app to their smartphone, which is available through Google Play or the Apple App Store. Charges will be set in line with the cost of using other local public charge points.

Frequently asked questions
Can I leave my car to charge overnight?
Yes. We encourage local residents to make use of the charge points especially where they do not have access to off street parking. Charging overnight is encouraged, and there are no car park charges between 6pm - 8am.
What type of charge points has the Council installed?
The charge points are Fast Charging and have Type 2 Sockets.
How much will it cost to charge my car?
The rate is currently set at 54p per kwh and is comparable with other local public charge points.
Where can I get the Blink Charging - EB Go! payment app?
This is available for smartphones from the Apple and Android App Stores, and does not ask for a membership fee or minimum spend.
If two cars are using the same charge point at the same time will it take longer to charge my car?
No. Each of the chargepoint sockets is supplied by a separate power cable. There will be no reduction in flow if two cars use the charge point at the same time.
