Parking permits
A parking permit scheme is available in council car parks which will make parking cheaper for regular users.
If your permit is set to renew from 1 April 2024 you will be charged at the new rates which are displayed in the table below.
Head to the MiPermit website to purchase your virtual permit now.
If you are a resident of the Borough you will need your council tax billing reference number to hand when you apply, as well as a copy of your V5 vehicle registration document or other paperwork showing the vehicle registered to an address in the Borough.
You can add other vehicles to a single permit but only one of these vehicles can be parked in a car park at any one time - this is the 'Active' vehicle. It is your responsibility to ensure that the 'Active' vehicle registration on your account is updated to match the vehicle at the time of parking, otherwise a Penalty Charge Notice may be issued. If you wish to park two or more vehicles in the car parks at the same time, or do not wish to keep changing the vehicle registration on your account, you will need to purchase a permit for each vehicle.
The following table shows the fees for a permit:

FAQS
Will I receive a permit in the post? Do I need to display a permit in my car window?
No – the permits are digital and your car numberplate will automatically be associated with the permit you’ve purchased. You will not receive a physical permit in the post.
What are the advantages of a permit?
- No cash required
- Allows for quick drop-in visits (like buying milk / bread etc)
- Removing the need to pay and display
- Allows shoppers to make unlimited visits
- Costs reduce the more the permit is used.
Can I change the car registration that is connected to my permit?
Yes, you can make unlimited changes to the car you have registered through the MiPermit website. You can only have one car registered at any one time. It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure the correct number plate is active on the MiPermit website when parking your vehicle.
If I purchase a virtual permit what do I need to display in my vehicle?
You do not need to display any proof of purchase in your vehicle. Once a permit is issued the vehicle registration number is automatically logged with the Enforcement Officers.
