Single Person Discount

If you are the only person over 18 living in your property, you may be entitled to a 25% reduction on your council tax bill.

To apply for single person discount you must:

• Be the only person over 18 years of age in the property
• Be liable for council tax - to check if you are liable for council tax contact please contact the Council Tax Team on (0116) 288 8961 option 3.

Request a single person discount

If your application is successful, a new bill will be issued to you. In the meantime, the bill previously issued to you must be regarded as correct and due for payment as requested.

If you are no longer eligible for single person discount, you must let us know.

Once your single person discount has been removed a new bill will be issued to you.

It is an offence under the Council Tax regulations for a person to knowingly provide false or misleading information to the council. The fine for this offence is £1000.

The Council may verify the information provided to confirm the discount where the law permits.
