Customer Service and Transformation

Customer Services

The Customer Services team is the first point of contact for all council enquiries. They receive enquiries over the telephone, face-to-face, online and via email. As well as dealing with customer enquiries, the Customer Services team carry out admin duties and processes enquiries for other teams in the council.

HR

The HR Team provides a professional HR service to the council on a range of employment matters. They advise on and support processes such as recruitment, pay and conditions, training and development, reward and recognition, employee relations, payroll and pensions.

Communications & Marketing

The Communications & Marketing team manages and delivers both internal and external communication using various medium engaging with our customers. They also deliver all aspects of marketing, including branding, advertisement, promotions and events.

Policy, Performance & Transformation

The Policy, Performance & Transformation team is responsible for driving customer service excellence and continuous improvement forward, assisting to increase the overall organisational capability and performance. They use customer insight data and digital transformation to ensure cost-effective service delivery. They are also responsible for managing requests for Information under the Freedom of Information Act 200, requests under the Data Protection Act 2018, requests under the Environmental Protection Regulations 2004 and managing the Member/MP Enquiry system and the council’s corporate complaints system.

Revenues & Benefits

The Revenues & Benefits team cover a wide range of services to our residents including the delivery of council tax, business rates (NNDR), Recovery and Benefits. They ensure that unpaid taxes and overpaid Housing Benefit is collected timely using prescribed recovery methods. They assess entitlement and award payments to help towards housing costs and council tax payments.

Corporate Projects & IT

The Corporate Projects & IT Team is broken down into three teams, IT, Systems, and Corporate Projects. The IT team look after our servers, the internal network and infrastructure, configuring for homeworking and cybersecurity. The Systems team look after essential software for teams across the council and the Corporate Projects team corporate their own projects such as office relocation and system improvements.

Law and Democracy

Democratic & Electoral Services

The Democratic & Electoral Services team is responsible for maintaining the Electoral Register and planning and delivering local and national elections. They also service the council’s committees preparing agendas, clerking the meetings, producing minutes and ensuring that committee decisions are actioned.

Legal

The Legal team is responsible for providing support across a wide range of the council’s functions including contracts, property transactions, housing possessions/disrepair prosecutions and local government administrative law.

Corporate Assets

The Corporate Assets team is responsible for the management and maintenance of all of the council’s landholdings and buildings other than its Housing Stock. The team also manages the council’s car parks and cemeteries.

Clean & Green

The Clean and Green team is responsible for the maintenance of the council’s parks and open spaces, street cleaning and litter picking.

Refuse & Recycling

The Refuse and Recycling Team is responsible for the collection of domestic household waste and recycling, bulky waste items and garden waste.

Environmental Health

The Environmental Health team is responsible for food safety and inspections, health and safety, statutory nuisance including noise nuisance, abandoned vehicles, air quality and the licensing of hairdressers and barbers amongst other things.

Licensing

The Licensing Team is responsible for licensing premises under the Licensing Act 2003 for the sale of alcohol and entertainment, late night refreshments and street trading along with the licensing of Hackney Carriage and Private Hire drivers and vehicles. They are also responsible for licensing premises under the Gambling Act.

Selective Licensing

The Selective Licensing Team is responsible for the Selective Licensing Scheme in South Wigston.

Community Safety

The Community Safety Team is responsible for investigation of anti-social behaviour, youth and resident engagement, the Community Safety Partnership, safeguarding and sports and physical activities.

Built Environment

Planning

The Planning team makes decisions on all planning applications that are submitted to the council including home extensions. The team work with the government to ensure that national legislation is fit for purpose.

Housing

The Housing team is made up of smaller teams such as Housing Options, Income Management, Repairs & Maintenance and Tenancy & Estate Management. All play a big part in looking after our tenants and co-ordinating the letting of empty council properties.

In addition, our Housing Options Team support people in the borough who are faced with homelessness and provides temporary accommodation for those who require it.

Economic Regeneration

The Economic Regeneration team provide support to local businesses within the borough, the team work in collaboration with partners from across the county to support the visitor economy, inward investment and other projects.

Finance

The Finance Team provide professional financial services, high-quality financial advice and assistance to other council departments. Finance is responsible for Treasury Management, Income Management, raising of Invoices and much more.
